2010 American Silver Eagle

The American Silver Eagle has been issued by the United States Mint each year since 1986. Each coin contains one ounce of .999 fine silver with the weight, content, and purity guaranteed by the federal government. The 2010 Silver Eagles represent the latest release of the bullion coin series.

Heavy demand for physical precious metals helped propel sales of the American Silver Eagle bullion coins to two consecutive years of new record highs. The demand has showed no signs of stopping this year, with sales on pace for record breaking annual total. For much of the year, the United States Mint imposed an allocation program, since demand for the coins exceeded supplies.

In addition to the bullion version of the coin, the United States Mint will be issuing the 2010 Proof Silver Eagle for collectors. These coins are struck on specially prepared dies to create sharply detailed strikes with a cameo finish. The release date for the proof coins is November 17, and follows much uncertainty about the status of the offering.
